Just 1 Percent Better Is All It Takes

I’m sure you’ve probably heard of the 80/20 rule. The idea is that a small number of things account for the majority of the results which is also known as the Pareto Principle. For example if one road is slightly more convenient than the other, more people will travel down that road. With that, more businesses are likely to build alongside it and as more businesses are built, people have additional reasons for using the road and so it gets even more traffic. Soon you end up with a saying like, “20 percent of the roads receive 80 percent of the traffic.” Now keeping the 80/20 rule in mind, if you can focus on getting One Percent better each day with your fitness you can easily create dramatic positive effects on your health over the long haul. Here’s a simple way to start. Pick one thing that you can easily change in your routine and try to get one percent better at it each day. For instance, if you tend to eat a lot of carbohydrates throughout the day, focus on substituting one carbohydrate item with a protein item per day. If you focus on getting one percent better each day, by the end of the month you will have made a dramatic difference in your nutrition program and I guarantee you’ll notice a significant difference in your waistline. Most importantly, by focusing on getting one percent better each day you will then start to create new and better habits. Once you’ve developed better habits, your results will be far more long lasting than quick fixes and drastic exercise or diet programs that don’t work long term.
